I'm with ya on this. But, MAN, I have the hardest time saying no to those yummy sweets...like the Thin Mints...my personal favorite.

I made the Fet. with creamy red pepper sauce (I Looove Ellie). I liked it a lot, but I think I need to purchase a food processor because my blender just didn't cut it. : ) That's one of two kitchen appliances I'm really wanting to buy...Food Processor and Standing Mixer. Oh...One Day!

Random Thoughts: As for your question on "The Cook & The Gardener"...I have not really started it yet (it's one of about 10 books I'm trying to read right now), but from what I can tell from my many glances through it, it seems more recipe less story telling. But still excellent. I'll let you know when I'm done. (reading caution: it's a big hard back and hard to read in bed!) random thought within a random thought: didn't you just Love Cooking for Mr. Latte???

And speaking of books to read...How are you enjoying My Life in France? I'm always wanting to pick it up, but then always change my mind...

And finally (last one, I swear)...Did you read Julie and Julia? I liked it quite a bit, but I'm curious how in the world they are going to do a movie about it! But I'll still go and see it...well, I'll probably wait till I can Netflix it. : )

I just want to give you some diet tips if that is ok - Diets are so tough sometimes, especially if you surround yourself with "goodies" all the time, as I am pretty sure you do (evidence being your pretty food pictures)...
1. Use massive amounts of herbs & spices to season your veggies & lean meats so you don't feel as if you diet is super bland
2. You can use olive oil in small doses but I am sorry to say but butter is OUT of the question! all that artery clogging fat is just not good for your body even in small does!
3. If you can try and find grass-fed meats like beef & bison and make sure they are grass-finished as well = this will help your diet tremendously! Eating A LOT of protein is not only good for muscle building but it is super good at putting a damper on cravings & hunger! I eat about 2 pounds (or more sometimes) of meat a day and as a result I do not snack in between meals at all.
4. If you really need something "sweet"... chew some sugar free gum like orbit! With all the varieties you will totally be able to cure the "joansing!"
5. Eat copious amounts of veggies - there is definitely NO LIMIT to this! I meant it - if you are hungry after dinner just eat more veggies like sliced bell peppers, tomatos (grape & cherry rocks!!) and others you can think of...
6. Are you going to start a work out program? That always helps you stay in line with your diet!
... Ok I am going to stop there because I am pretty sure you know what your doing but I just thought I would share my 2 cents... if you want more just contact me!

I was looking through your archives and you do make a lot of sweet goodies. That peanut butter fudge looks really good. I too prefer cookie dough to the finished cookie and have been know to combine a bit of butter, flour, oats, brown sugar and vanilla and just eat it.

If you get the urge for something sweet, consider taking a favorite cookie recipe and adapt it to be a lower calorie. You will be amazed at how much sugar and fat you can take out of a cookie or cake and still end up with a great dessert. If I make a cookie recipe I always reduce the sugar by 1/3 and substitute applesauce for part of the butter. I save a ton of calories doing this and am still able to enjoy a sweet treat (or 2 or 3 or...).

One of my favorite motivators for keeping in shape is to DVR The Biggest Looser and watch It while I work out. Very motivating!

I did the South Beach diet for a month and lost 20 pounds. The problem was that I had deadly cravings for a biscuit sandwich; just butter up a biscuit and slap it in another biscuit with bacon! I put the weight back on the next month! Now I found that with a good exercise routine, I fare much better.

Good Luck!

Good for you! I've also tried to get in the gym routine these last few months ... it's hard. And I have a hard time ignoring the Thin Mints calling my name! :)

For free you can go to www.fitday.com and do the same thing without the smiley faces. It shows you a breakdown of the nutritional value of your foods as well.

I read about this site from Dr. Mike's Protein Power blog and it gave him lots of red angry frowns for his food which he found funny because it was all whole, natural foods minus the processed crap most people think is healthy.

Also on my favorite forum http://forum.lowcarber.org there is a feature called My P.L.A.N. (I came up with half the name for it and won Karen Barnaby's Low Carb Gourmet cookbook)that is based off the USDA's database and is excellent for seeing all the information about what you have eaten.

Restarting Atkins January 2nd I've lost 23 pounds so far. My favorite foods right now, Greek salad with baby spinich, black olives and feta cheese with Ken's Greek Dressing, hard boiled eggs made into egg salad, steak, chicken wings, lemon pepper chicken, and a dish of breakfast sausage with broccoli, cauliflower, butter, cheese and cream cheese is so decadent. I also learned over vacation to make Cleochatra's Oopsie Rolls and had them with strawberries and whipped cream.....so good. http://www.cleochatra.blogspot.com/

Enjoy!

Well, more power to you!

I've fallen into the same problem as Cze-Johnson ... I faithfully started WW in January. I lost 10lbs which was great ... but I started blogging more and cooking more ... and well, it wasn't until this post that I remembered, "oh crap, I think I'm still paying a monthly fee for WW". :-)

oh dear.

so I've been on weight watchers since january. strike that.. I've been PAYING weight watchers since january. They have a very similar food tracking tool... but thankfully no happy faces.

I don't think I could handle seeing the face they would give me for eating nothing but water for 23 hours a day then cramming my alotted 20 points into one very greasy bacon-wrapped mound of delicious fat.

but you're right. having to type what you eat is ruthless. here's to willpower and good eating for you!

I have to jump on the "D" wagon - *sigh* I made the change over at Starbucks already - nonfat iced latte - 3 pts. and much better than, oh a caramel macchiato (nonfat).

Moderation is the key, I guess. I'll have to look at MFD. I used to use SparkPeople (free and it was better than WW, IMO).

CONGRATS Erin!
