Fage Yogurt: A BlogHer Review

Please Note: This is a compensated review from FAGE and BlogHer.

FAGE Yogurt

My boyfriend CK is a yogurt fiend so we always have yogurts of all shapes, sizes, and levels of healthfulness on hand.  But sometimes you just want something basic, creamy, and tangy that doesn’t come with chocolate chips and more fat than a doughnut. For times like those I always try to have a container of FAGE Greek Yogurt in the refrigerator. Over time FAGE has become a kitchen staple in our home and while it’s absolutely delightful as a snack it’s also an incredible multi-purpose ingredient. I’ve often successfully substituted FAGE in place of sour cream in recipes. In fact, one of my favorite entrees to make for dinner using FAGE is a lighter version of the traditionally very heavy beef stroganoff. In the dish you substitute half of the sour cream with FAGE yogurt and use portobello mushrooms instead of beef. I promise you wont miss the meat at all when you take a bite of tender mushrooms dripping in a creamy rich sauce, and I’m certain your thighs wont miss the fat either.

I’ve also found that FAGE gives baked goods a profoundly moist texture including muffins that rise sky high. The crumb on these Blueberry Lemon Muffins made with FAGE 0% yogurt was absolutely silky in texture.

Blackberry Frozen Yogurt with FAGE

And with summer just around the corner why not try your hand at making frozen yogurt spiked with freshly picked local berries? Last year I made an insanely delicious Blackberry Frozen Yogurt with FAGE.  What kid (or adult for that matter) doesn’t love bright purple food.

Sometimes you don’t have time to whip up an entire recipe. FAGE gets that people lead busy lives. To that end they’ve created a line of dangerously addictive yogurt snacks that are all 100% natural, free of additives, preservatives, and sweeteners just like their larger counterparts. You can choose from honey, cherry, strawberry, and peach or even add your own toppings to a mini 6-ounce FAGE container. I didn’t realize it initially, but CK showed me that you can actually tip the fruit filling directly into the yogurt cup for a quick stir in, or you can be like me and dip each savory bite into the mini honey or strawberry pot individually. Plus as each FAGE cup of yogurt only has between 130 (for fruit) and 180 (for honey) calories you wont need to feel a single ounce of guilt while you’re thoroughly enjoying that afternoon or midnight snack.

If you haven’t had the opportunity to try FAGE’s fabulous yogurt products before then you’re in for a treat. BlogHer is currently giving away a case of FAGE to one lucky individual each day until May 6, 2009. For more details and to enter the contest please click here. Good luck!
