A Tate’s Bake Shop Giveaway

Note: This contest is closed. A hearty congratulations to Jeannette for winning the cookies and cookbook! 44 appears to be your lucky number!

Would you believe me if I told you that a mail order cookie could taste like homemade? I know…I know…I can hear you scoffing from the safety of your laptop, but I’m here to assure you that yes, Virginia, the cookies from Tate’s Bake Shop based in Southampton, New York will easily pass as fresh from the oven. How do I know this? Well a plate of their scrumptious Chocolate Chip, Oatmeal Raisin, and White Chocolate Macadamia Nut cookies were set out for family to munch on during a post Thanksgiving cocktail hour and I was repeatedly asked if I had made them.

I’m sure that you’re all aware that I’m one of the biggest anti-crispy cookie haters on record, and I blush a bit when I say this, but Tate’s Crispy Chocolate Chip Cookies were so buttery and addictive that I couldn’t stop eating them. It appears I’m going to need to rethink my crispy cookie stance.

Not only does Tate’s offer a wide selection of cookies, dessert bars, short breads, cakes, and pies but they’ve also compiled their famous recipes into a cookbook so now  you can make all of your favorites at home. I can’t wait to recreate those amazing crispy Chocolate Chip Cookies from my copy! To add a little more legitimacy to these fabulous desserts, my idol, Ina Garten penned the book’s foreword.

Are you drooling with anticipation yet? I certainly hope so because do I have a treat for you! One lucky reader will receive a Tate’s Bake Shop assortment of cookies (including the to-die-for Crispy Chocolate Chip) as well as a copy of the Tate’s Bake Shop Cookbook. To enter the contest please leave a comment on this post letting me know if you’re a crispy or chewy cookie person.

You can also receive one additional entry in the contest (for a total of two chances) if you become a fan of Tate’s Bake Shop on Facebook. Click here to “like” the bake shop and don’t forget to leave a second comment alerting me to this action.

A winner will be selected via the nifty random number generator on Friday, December 3rd at 8:00 PM EST, and then I’ll promptly arrange to have the treats shipped to your home. Best of luck!

PS: In case you just can’t wait to see if you’re a winner, Tate’s Bake Shop has very kindly offered readers a 15% discount on all purchases made via their online store. Simply enter the code cookie when you place an order. Please note that this code expires on December 31, 2010.

3 Wendy W. November 30, 2010 at 8:55 am

Almost always a chewy cookie person – the only crispy cookies I like are gingersnaps 🙂

4 Katie Papa November 30, 2010 at 8:55 am

I usually say chewy – but I grew up eating Tate’s cookies, too!! Only Tate’s gives the most perfect crispiness that you wouldn’t believe, and you’re right – they do taste homemade! However, I will admit, whenever I make cookies or brownies, I try to undercook them just a LITTLE bit – not enough so that they’re not cooked all the way or falling apart on the tray, but just a little bit… – so that I can get that warm, gooey, chewy sensation. You absolutely can’t beat it!!

5 Dorothy November 30, 2010 at 9:06 am

12 The Hungry Crafter November 30, 2010 at 9:29 am

Ha ha — I like Regina’s response! I’m a chewy gal myself, but yeah, in the end, I never met a cookie I didn’t like… Very curious about these after your review!

13 Weezie November 30, 2010 at 10:12 am

I pretty much just like cookies. Chewy, crunchy, crispy, oddly-shaped, slightly burnt… I’m not picky! 🙂 If I had to choose, I think that, if done well, a crispy chocolate chip cookie is pretty much the best thing ever, and Tate’s sure sounds like they know what they’re doing!!

14 Weezie November 30, 2010 at 10:13 am

I’m a facebook fan!

15 Tran November 30, 2010 at 10:21 am

OMG!!! I love these cookies.. I think these are the same cookies they have at J.Crew during the holiday shopping season (now). When I used to work there, we would always hope that broken ones would come into the break room so we could eat them.. soooo goooood!!!

16 Tamra November 30, 2010 at 10:36 am

Chewy cookies! I can taste them now! 🙂

17 Kathy - Panini Happy November 30, 2010 at 10:39 am

19 Kirsten T November 30, 2010 at 10:47 am

20 Donna P November 30, 2010 at 10:51 am

Chewy all the way (unless I have a glass of milk).

32 Heather November 30, 2010 at 12:26 pm

I prefer chewy, but I don’t discriminate. A good chocolate chip cookie is a thing of beauty… and to be enjoyed!

33 Heather November 30, 2010 at 12:27 pm

I am a facebook fan. It was actually from their FB post that I found out about your (great) blog! Thanks.

34 Wendy in Wisconsin November 30, 2010 at 12:42 pm

I usually like chewy, but I had these cookies for the first time this past weekend and I love them!! A good cookie is a good cookie regardless if they are chewy or crisy!!

35 Judy R November 30, 2010 at 12:48 pm

I love chewy cookies, but the occasional crispy cookie is yummy too. Depends on the recipe.

36 Molly November 30, 2010 at 12:51 pm

I am a thin and crispy type cookie person! These sound unbelievable!

37 Molly November 30, 2010 at 12:52 pm

I’m also a fan on Facebook!!!

38 Mariah November 30, 2010 at 12:59 pm

Crispy cookie if I have milk to dunk it in–chewy otherwise (especially if it’s warm and right out of the oven).

39 Leslie Herrema November 30, 2010 at 12:59 pm

I am usually a chewy cookie lover but I would love to see if Tates can change my mind!

40 Leslie Herrema November 30, 2010 at 1:00 pm

I’m also a facebook fan of Tates.

41 Bavarian Erin November 30, 2010 at 1:20 pm

I tend to be a crispy cookie fan, but my husband is chewy all the way so when I make cookies I tend to make more chewy ones and only a few crisp ones for myself (since I’m watching my figure!)

I think I became a fan of crispy cookies when I was young and my Dad tried to make cookies and overcooked them but sweets were so rare in our house that I ate the cookies anyway and found I loved the strong butter flavor in the crispy ones!

P.S. Facebook fanning right now!

42 Susan November 30, 2010 at 1:28 pm

I’ve been a fan of Tate’s on facebook for a long time. I prefer chewy chocolate chip cookies, but I love Tate’s crispy ones. I also love the oatmeal, cranberry cookies.

43 Rosie November 30, 2010 at 1:34 pm

Chewy all the way!

44 Jeannette November 30, 2010 at 1:34 pm

i am a facebook fan of tate’s!

46 Anne November 30, 2010 at 1:52 pm

Living in Colorado, I have no choice but to like crispy cookies. Chewy cookies are tough to make at altitude.

47 gwen November 30, 2010 at 2:13 pm

I’m a chewy 😀

48 gwen November 30, 2010 at 2:14 pm

I’m also a facebook fan!!

50 Karen@Mignardise November 30, 2010 at 2:33 pm

Chewy chewy chewy.
But I’d love to try Tate’s crispy!

Just became a Tate’s FB fan too.

51 Sharlene November 30, 2010 at 2:36 pm

I’m a chewy cookie gal all the way. Perhaps these will change my mind!

52 Mindy November 30, 2010 at 2:39 pm

Chewy for sure!

53 adrienne November 30, 2010 at 3:07 pm

I like them with super crispy edges and a chewy center…right down the middle i guess.

54 Amy P. November 30, 2010 at 3:25 pm

I’m more of a chewy fan as crispy cookies tend to shatter as I try to eat them.

55 Michele November 30, 2010 at 3:31 pm

Chewy all the way! Cookies are my favorite dessert since I’m not a huge dessert person. It’s the perfect option for me. On my way to become a fan!

56 Cristie November 30, 2010 at 3:32 pm

Chewy all the way!

57 Michele November 30, 2010 at 3:32 pm

Done! I’m a fan!

58 Eileen November 30, 2010 at 3:32 pm

Chewy rocks!

59 Erin November 30, 2010 at 4:37 pm

Totally a chewy fan, but I’d love to give these crispy cookies a try to see if they’re as good as you say they are 🙂

60 Amber November 30, 2010 at 5:27 pm

I too was chewy until I tried the Tate’s crispy chocolate chip cookies. Now I am having a cookie identity crisis 🙂

61 Hollie November 30, 2010 at 5:50 pm

Pick me, pick me! I’m definitely a chewy cookie girl, but I’m all for trying new things.

62 Carolyn November 30, 2010 at 6:12 pm

I’m definitely a fan of chewy cookies, but I bet I could be easily swayed by some free samples. 🙂

63 Sarah November 30, 2010 at 6:12 pm

I’m definitely a chewy cookie lover!

64 Shannon November 30, 2010 at 6:14 pm

chewy please 🙂

65 Tran November 30, 2010 at 6:19 pm

I’ve liked them on Facebook.. hope i win!!!

66 cathy November 30, 2010 at 6:40 pm

Typically I’m a chewy cookie baker, but I have a couple ‘crispy’ cookies that I enjoy as well.

67 April in CT November 30, 2010 at 6:47 pm

Ack!!! I have to choose!?! Right now I could go for a chewy cookie, but that could change at any second. What an awesome give away, the cookbook looks great and the cookies would be a welcomed addition on the munchy tray when we have Christmas guests (if I could wait that long).

68 sara November 30, 2010 at 6:50 pm

I would have to say chewy, but I would love to give these a try!

69 Toni November 30, 2010 at 8:24 pm

Definitely chewy!

70 Toni November 30, 2010 at 8:24 pm

And FB fan!

71 Katia November 30, 2010 at 9:01 pm

Always chewy!

72 Carrie November 30, 2010 at 9:16 pm

I never want to choose. Ever.

73 Carrie November 30, 2010 at 9:17 pm

And yes, already a fb fan.

74 Rebecca November 30, 2010 at 9:42 pm

Chewy Cookie. But if you can be converted, then maybe there is hope for me.

75 Pam November 30, 2010 at 10:07 pm

I’ve walked by these cookies a million times in the Brookline Booksmith and always wondered why they had them. Good to know they’re tasty (and I’m starting to understand why they stock them). I’m definitely a chewy cookie girl, but the right crispy cookies are always good.

76 Eric Spencer December 1, 2010 at 3:31 am

I have a great recipe for chewy, but have been looking for the right crispy one to supplement. Team chewy.

77 karen d December 1, 2010 at 5:41 am

I like chewy, but who would turn down a Tate’s cookie of andy type?

78 Jenny December 1, 2010 at 8:18 am

I love crispy – and I love Tate’s cookies.

79 Jenny December 1, 2010 at 8:19 am

I am a fan on FB.

80 Rebecca December 1, 2010 at 8:30 am

Chewy. Most definitely. But I will eat either, esp. if it’s a Tate’s cookie. 🙂

81 Rebecca December 1, 2010 at 8:30 am

And I’m a FB fan now, too!

82 Ed December 1, 2010 at 8:41 am

Sadly, I have to admit any cookie type…….. anytime……………

83 Amanda Sy December 1, 2010 at 8:54 am

I am a chewy cookie girl.. the softer the better

84 Kathie December 1, 2010 at 8:59 am

I am a cookie girl – the type of cookie determines if it should be chewy or crispy.

For example – gingerbread/peanut butter or chocolate cookies – chewy.
Sugar cookies, Chocolate chip cookies or mint cookies – crispy.

Just bring on the cookies. 🙂

85 Kathie December 1, 2010 at 9:01 am

Oh, and I did give Tate’s Bake Shop a like on Facebook.

With Christmas – and it’s associate baking days – coming up, I would LOVE to get a copy of that cookbook.

Yeah, the cookies would be nice too – would give me something to munch whilst perusing the cookbook. 😀

86 Jan December 1, 2010 at 9:24 am

I’m a chewy person for sure.

87 Sherri December 1, 2010 at 9:34 am

I am a chewy girl!!

88 Sherri December 1, 2010 at 9:34 am

I am a new Fb fan!!

89 Kristen B December 1, 2010 at 9:48 am

I am definitely a chewy person. But under the right circumstances, I can be swayed to the crispy side. Who am I kidding? I’ll eat any cookie. 😉

90 Lisa December 1, 2010 at 10:44 am

I usually prefer chewy cookies.

91 Sues December 1, 2010 at 12:11 pm

92 Dani H December 1, 2010 at 1:22 pm

Chewy, chewy, chewy! Thanks for a chance at the giveaway. Happy Holidays.

93 Christy K December 1, 2010 at 1:37 pm

95 Amanda December 1, 2010 at 2:47 pm

Definitely love the crispy cookies. Though the best is crispy chewy. YUM.

96 Amanda December 1, 2010 at 2:47 pm

I’m a fan on facebook!

97 Joan December 1, 2010 at 3:10 pm

Definitely chewy, but will never turn down a crispy cookie. And I’ve been a FB fan for a while 🙂

98 Terri December 1, 2010 at 4:22 pm

I like both but I guess if I were to choose I would say chewy.

102 Stefanie December 1, 2010 at 4:59 pm

I’m a FB Fan! 🙂

103 Katie December 1, 2010 at 5:15 pm

Definitely chewy! But I’m willing to give crispy a chance. 🙂

104 Denise Michaels - Adventurous Foodie December 1, 2010 at 7:04 pm

I’m generally a chewy cookie fan rather than a crispy cookie fan. However, cookies like this that are thin and buttery can be amazing because they’re not hard as rocks.

105 Stacey December 1, 2010 at 10:27 pm

Any kind of cookie is fine with me!

106 jacquie December 1, 2010 at 10:37 pm

chewy. though in a pinch i have been known to eat crispy also 🙂

107 Sean December 2, 2010 at 5:15 am

I’m in East Hampton, have adored Tate’s (and Kate’s before that) for years. Yes, these are the best cookies in the world. But… there is some secret alchemy b/c no one I know has ever been able to duplicate her results even using her recipe. Don’t mean to be a buzz kill with your give away — who knows, maybe bakers better than the ones in my circle will have better luck.

108 Doruntina December 2, 2010 at 8:56 am

I am definitely a chewy cookie person!!!!

109 rumana December 2, 2010 at 1:04 pm

Love them warm and chewy!

115 Sharon H December 2, 2010 at 8:32 pm

Just liked them on FB and can’t wait to try them!

116 Valerie Simonton December 3, 2010 at 12:42 am

For me it depends on the cookie… chocolate chip – chewy; Chinese fortune – crisp and so on. Never had a Tate cookie, but they sound great.

117 Julia Barrett December 3, 2010 at 9:32 am

CRISPY!!!!!!!! The more butter the better!!!

118 Susan K. December 3, 2010 at 12:11 pm

Chewy with crispy edges..I know that wasn’t really a choice!

I just became a fan of theirs and liked them!

119 Kerstin December 4, 2010 at 12:30 am

Chewy, but really I love any and all 🙂
