Looking over every other comment on this post I feel like a giant git but here I go anyway:
bread machines are cool and all but i would still like to take a sunday with you and do the old fashioned traditional bread extravaganza that i think might sway your mind.
As someone who tried for ages to make bread at home, it took working at A&J King's to help me figure out what I'd been doing wrong for years, and I would be happy to share the stuff I've learned. Besides you can break the cube-mold and make sourdoughs, boules, batards, stuffed breads, braids, etc...
Anyhoot...having said that...bread machines are awful convenient.
happy holidays!

I bought my wife a breadmaker last year for Mother's Day and it is the best present I have ever had. My house is gluten-free and it is expensive to buy GF bread loaf by loaf. We order Pamela's GF bread mix bulk from amazon.com and it is a great price point. You can set a timer and have the bread bake overnight so that when you wake up in the morning, you have the smell of fresh bread. And there's nothing like it.

Taking your lead. I've been wanting to make bread for a while now but have been intimidated.

What recipe did you use?

Also can you make different styles of bread (wheat, sourdough, etc)?

Cheers,
David

good for you not caring what people say about using a bread machine! I used mine a lot in the past, but need the release of kneading the crap out of something these days, so it's back in the pantry until I'm all worn out from kneading by hand. long-winded sentences really are in, didn't you know it?

Pshaw on all the bread machine haters! What if you had no hands and could not knead? Would they thumb their noses at you then? I say kudos to you for finally taking the plunge and I look forward to hearing about all your yummy bread concoctions in the future!
