[...] Flowers, potatoes, bright berries, numerous mushrooms, and juicy cherries all caught my attention and many made their way into my floral pastel sack (thanks Sabina!). I even managed to hunt down the elusive eggs, which were delicious but did not have yolks quite as bright as my Grammy’s eggs. [...]

We started raising chickens last year and have had a steady flow of eggs since September last year. Your photo comparison speaks for itself and I cannot tell you how much better those eggs taste. My friend Krista appears on my doorstop every Friday morning and asks "any eggs today?". Of course, I head out to the barn and pick up a couple, boil them and we stand over the sink eating and making strange sounds about how wonderful these tastes! Knowing the eggs are produced from organic chickens and are as fresh as we'll ever get is always a good feeling too!

Hi there- I just found your blog- I love it! Your pictures are absolutely beautiful and although I've only read 2 posts, I really like the content so far.

The egg post reminded me of these super expensive free range eggs I got recently. The yolks were giant and so bright orange, just like your Grammy's. Guess happy chickens have orange yolks. :)

I find it hard to believe you've been eating take-out all week. ok, weddings and baseball games keep you busy... but how about an "ask Erin Cooks" segment???

(in other words.. how 'bout a new post???)

I mean... when that whole JOB thing isn't in the way and all. ;)

Hey there! I'm from Maine as well, and we were lucky enough to have 2 or 3 people in my hometown who had chickens. I miss fresh eggs. I'm so jealous when I see Nigella working with them on tv....

When I was a kid we raised a special kind of chicken (Araucanas?) that laid multi-colored eggs, blue and green mostly. Not only did it look like Easter every day, they were also definitely tastier than what you find in the store. Makes me long for country living...

i would eat eggs for every meal if i could get eggs like those. the organic ones i usually get are decent, but there's nothing like the bright orange yolk of a real fresh egg from a happy chicken. screw the orange color, i'd put 'em in everything.

There is no correlation between eggs and cholesterol.

This has been disproved many times and the word is still not out there.

Often research is misrepresented in the media like the famous Framingham study. http://www.proteinpower.com/drmike/archives/2006/09/framingham_stud.html

There's a movie being made called (at least of the time of this post) Fat Head: You've been fed a load of bologna.

There is also the International Network of Cholesterol Skeptics. http://www.thincs.org/

Tons more research is out there.
