I collect vintage pyrex, I've learned over the years that the pyrex class is not meant to be heated over 350 degrees F.

=]

If you've ever heated it hotter than that, bumped it, dropped it, It will explode! Also, Don't put it in an oven until the over is already pre heated.

I guess this is an old post, but beautiful blog! I bet your food is delicious Erin!

i just had a pyrexplosion last night. had a pork tenderloin in the 9x9 undr the broiler of my oven. after about 7 or 8 minutes, i smelled burning, went to check and the pork was perfectly carmelized on the top. i pulled the pan out to flip the pork, and the pan blew up while i was holding both handles. a huge chunk fell into my knee, piercing ligaments and stuff. sent me to the er for stitches and a tetanus shot. i knew that could happen, because i did the same thing about 5 years ago, but i was in a hurry, and my pregnant wife was hungry. painful lesson.

Oh my, I saw this and just had to reply. A couple of months ago I removed my pyrex dish from the oven, placed it on the counter and it literally exploded into thousands of pieces. It scared the you know what out of me! Thankfully I was wearing my glasses otherwise I would have had an eyeful of glass. Like another of your readers, we found glass for months. To this day, every time I take pyrex out of the oven I look (and run) away!

I am so sorry you had to experience this Pyrex trauma, Erin! I too, have been scarred by Pyrex, both emotionally and physically. The pan, at the time, was sitting on the edge of my kitchen counter, and I heard a funny crackling noise. I made the connection, threw Kelly out of the kitchen and on to the ground military style, hoisted myself on to the kitchen counter across the room and curled up into a little ball, and watched in horror as the pan exploded into a million pieces. We found glass shards around the room for months, and I even got a couple shards in my leg & foot. I have a hard time trusting Pyrex to this day!

But oh, that mac & cheese does look delicious! And thank goodness you & Chris were not hurt!

Remember Jaime's story of exploding pyrex?! It's never happened to me, but if it did, i am pretty sure I would die from a heart attack because i'm jumpy enough without the major explosion of glass and food! I agree with CK, that does look really good, what was all that in there?

When you moved the dish must have been dropped or bumped. I have had this happen before it does make a mess I think it was the pork chop casserole with the potatoes!!!
