Moving day is fast approaching. Thursday morning, bright and early, a team of rugged gentleman will once again drag all of our worldly goods into a truck and then drop them off at our new home. Sounds almost pleasant, doesn’t it? Well the truth of the matter is that I’ve only packed our books so far. All 18 boxes of them. So we’re probably only 15% packed at this point with mere hours to go before we have to be done. I foresee the next two days consisting of very late nights and lots and lots of sticky tape incidents and exasperated yelling that will include variations on, “Where’s the black marker?!” and “Get out of the box Dexter!”
Needless to say I’ll be out of commission for the next week, but I fully intend to come back in a much more lively and (hopefully) more frequently updated blogging style. I harbor high hopes that I can once again return to cooking actual food in my oven (I’ll see you soon central air) and as I’ll have an actual functional kitchen again I might potentially be persuaded to use some of the kitchen gadgets and appliances that have been collecting dust over the last four months. Fingers crossed!

My husband and I have moved 4 times in 8 years. This is the LAST house we will ever live in, if we ever have to move again I am selling the house with everything in it.

Best of luck with the move! After several moves I finally figured out that the two things I need to do if I want to keep my sanity intact are: 1) label my boxes as specifically as possible about where they need to go [i.e., Kitchen, Left Countertop] and 2) always always hire movers.

Awesome! You can do it, seriously. I moved 9 times in the first 5 years I lived in Boston. Also, if I win, someone else can have three of the books – I just want the river cottage preserves book! I’ve gone jam crazy again this year

i had to move twice within 12 months due to landlords not paying their mortgages… and not only did i move 5 people, but the second move also had 4 dogs, 3 goats, a donkey,about 30 chickens, 3 ducks, and peachick eggs half incubated by mom and half incubated in my new bathroom… i’m hoping to stay in the same place for at least 3 years this time.. lol….

Good luck with the move–we always do the same thing, pack the books first and feel Very Virtuous about how much we’ve done, until we look around and see how much we haven’t yet even taken a crack at…hang in there!

After 36 moves, I’m done. Settled in. Determined never again to weigh packing all my stuff against moving up to the next great house, the next great city, or the next great opportunity. time for some new recipes, with these new cookbooks
Books are always the worst to move. The book boxes always end up way too heavy to carry. I’ve started packing the book boxes in my trunk, and taking the books off the shelf and putting them directly in the car boxes. Then, unloading them straight out of the car and onto the bookshelf. This is the lesson learned from having the bottom fall out of a box of engineering textbooks…..almost broke my foot.

have fun with the move! (i’m the freak who actually loves packing and unpacking and i haven’t moved in a while, so i’m a little jealous).
I moved more than 15 times in my adult life! AH…. It got old fast. But in the beginning it was fun! We always had a moving party, good for getting things carried out to the U-Haul truck!
I always promise myself that this will be a year in which I don’t move…at least you’ll have a gorgeous weekend for it! Good luck!

We love moving. I think we’d live a nomadic life if we were able to telecommute. Our next move will hopefully be to the Pacific NW.
