Many years ago there was a company called Bean’s Corner Popcorn near my hometown and I vaguely remember them selling all of these super sugary, brightly colored, and uniquely flavored popcorn varieties. I think they even had a blueberry version that boasted a navy blue coating with a tasty artificial additive that I happily gobbled down by the handful even though I technically hated all things blueberry.
My favorite though was a neon pink popcorn that tasted like watermelon bubble gum. Needless to say that particular junk food could put me into a sugar shock that lasted the entire day. I’d even wear out my She-Ra dolls before my blood sugar came back to Earth.
Unfortunately it appears that this company no longer exists and even my extensive Google stalker abilities haven’t yielded a mention of its prior existence. Thankfully the creative folks at Craft posted a recipe so that we can all easily make a shockingly pink popcorn treat at home. Plus I love any excuse to break out my Whirley-Pop. Of course, I know not everyone loves pink like I do so feel free to choose your own favorite color, but keep in mind that all of the princesses in your life will undoubtedly vote for pink.
PS: Congratulations Lisa! You were “lucky number” 51! You’ll be receiving The Gastrokid Cookbook in the mail shortly. Thank you to everyone for participating and be sure to stay tuned. Pretty Pretty Princess Pink Party Popcorn
Inspired by Jenny Ryan’s post on Craftzine.com (Many thanks to Pam for sending me the link).
Popcorn
Vegetable Oil or Olive Oil
Kosher Salt
8 ounces of good White Chocolate
Red Food Coloring
Pop a batch of popcorn. The stove top method is best, but you could also use microwave popcorn if you must — just try to avoid the flavored kind. Either way you will need approximately 8 cups of popcorn. (Erin’s Note: I love my Whirley-Pop. You may want to consider purchasing one. I personally will never go back to the traditional pot shaking method ever again).
Spread the popcorn over a baking sheet lined with a silpat or wax paper. Pick out any unpopped kernels — you don’t want anyone to break a tooth!
Melt 8 ounces of white chocolate until smooth. You can use a double-boiler to melt the chocolate, or put it in the microwave for 30 seconds at a time on medium power, stirring after each round. Once the chocolate is smooth, add a few drops of food coloring, and stir to blend.
Use a spoon to drizzle the melted chocolate across the popcorn. Mix the popcorn around with the spoon to evenly distribute the chocolate. Then place the baking sheet in the refridgerator for 20 minutes to allow the chocolate to harden. Finally, serve and enjoy!

I’m so excited that I won the Gastrokid Cookbook, thank you!!
I have the same popcorn maker as you but have been lazy and have resorted to the mini microwave bags…shame on me! My little Princess Maisie would love this popcorn, maybe this weekend we’ll make it together. Thank you again!!
This is so cute! I’m actually a huge fan of pink. I think I may just feature your recipe tomorrow on my blog for Pink Thursday 🙂
I love this! It would be a perfect snack at a bridal or baby shower.
I love my Whirley-Pop, it’s the best way ever to make popcorn.
This popcorn looks so cute! Thanks for sharing!
That popcorn looks so good! I’m so glad you gave it a try.
Oh Erin! You never cease to delight me. It had never dawned on me to dye popcorn, but OF COURSE!
Oh my goodness look at that popcorn! So sweet. Perfect for a little girl’s party.
This is every little gourmet girl’s dream! Think of the tea parties!
My daughter would love this popcorn especially since its pink!!!!
Thanks for sharing, adorable!!!! 🙂
OMG! This is my favorite popcorn as a child and I have never been able to find it since then. Thank you:)
This is sooo pretty and perfect!! I would have NEVER thought to do this!!
I love this idea! I will have go with the blueberry blue color as I have a little boy! But, this is such a great idea for kids.
So happy to see you using the Whirley Pop. I love mine! Got it as a wedding gift and scoffed at first but have ended up using it all of the time!
Thanks for this delicious looking popcorn recipe. Fun for a night with the girls. I just got some Himalayan sea salt from Sustainable Sourcing https://secure.sustainablesourcing.com and I think I’ll try it out in this tonight. I really love a salty sweet combination so I think it should work out well.
Yum! When I was little we had pink popcorn – I think it was called Elephant popcorn. I loved it!
Thanks for the recipe!
K
I love the color of this! It makes me want to use food coloring the next time I make a batch of the white chocolate/pretzels/m&m’s mishmash.
How cute this is! This will be my family’s movie snack this weekend. Thanks so much for sharing!
This is so pretty! Who knew popcorn could be so lovely. Bookmarked!
My best friend is the very biggest pretty pink princess (probably on the face of the planet!). I so can’t wait to make this and send her a care package. Thanks for sharing!
How pretty! I know some little girls that just HAVE to have this for our next tea party. 🙂
I love it, it’s so creative and festive, it was a great time for me and my niece at her birthday party on Saturday. Thank you for the lovely recipe.
I love sweet popcorn!! But I’ve never made colorful popcorn. Looks fabulous!
white chocolate on my popcorn? hmmm, i could get on board. might chose purple instead though, just to make things difficult 😉
I wanted to make purple too actually (instead of pink for once) but the oddest thing happened when I tried to make purple with my box of gel based food colors. It turned a ghastly shade of grey. I actually wasted several large bars of white chocolate trying to get some semblance of purple or violet to appear but it just kept turning grey. I think it has something to do with the gel colors. I never had that problem using those old school liquid dyes. So I guess I’d recommend buying a purple food coloring at a craft or baking store if you want to make a really pretty purple. I’m sure it would be lovely!
Oh! I love the pink! Will try this at our next girlie party. Thanks!
I remember Bean’s Corner Popcorn. I got a speeding ticket in front of their white house when I was a new driver!
I love the idea of pink popcorn. My daughter says (she’s 29) the reason she doesn’t like pink is because that’s all she wore when she was a baby. Don’t think that is quite true. I will try this.
Pink popcorn is an interesting idea, but I really think you can’t beat a classic caramel corn or cheese popcorn from http://www.nutsonclark.com .
WOW…. this is a Great Recipe SIMPLE …..EASY……PERFECT.
THIS COULD NEVER GET BORING. I’m going to try it today.
THANKS FOR SHARING.
I’m a popcorn lover and try recipes all the time, in fact i can’t wait to try this one, white chocolate is a weakness of mine but every time i try to dress up my popcorn, whatever I drizzle on top makes the popcorn shrivel up… do you know why? am I doing something wrong?
I am using the idea for a baby shower I am putting together because it a princess theme and I wanted the favors to be something they can eat or make use of because me as a person I get rid of things I hate dust collectors so the pink popcorn fits and also in my buget
I LOVE your recipes… I’d just like more pictures so we can see how the process is done 🙂 thank you
Such a good idéa! I just made a batch and it was good: http://goodcupcakesgood.blogspot.com/2011/09/popcorn-pinterest.html
Thanks for the inspiration!
Hi! Neat idea! i’m gonna give it a try when we get a new whirley pop (Love that thing!) also i had another way of making pink (or any color) popcorn in your whirley pop. Put popcorn, oil, sugar and whatever color of food colring you want in the whirley pop and cook once the popcorn is done. It’s like that colored kettle corn you find at fairs and stuff but everyone knows homemade is better! 🙂
Thanks for sharing!
have you tried adding kool aid powder to the chocolate to make the flavors that you remember?
Can you premake these? I want to make these for my daughters birthday, and I wanted to know how many days can you premake these before you serve them?
Thanks
I also was wondering the same….can these be premade? Did you get an answer? Thanks!
Hello Krisztina,
I’m sorry. I honestly don’t know. I made this recipe from one that I found online years ago at this point. I personally would think that it might get soggy or possibly stale if you make it ahead though. It’s not the same as making popcorn balls etc…
This is lovely, and what a good timing as I need pink party ideas. I have pinned it and will attempt it in two weeks for my girls 4th birthday. Thank you for sharing!
This looks great! I will be making this for my daughters party. I am assuming that you put the Kosher salt on popped popcorn and then the melted white chocolate? Just wondering if enough salt sticks to the popped corn without having butter help to make it adhere. 🙂 Thanks!
TRY DRIZZLING THE POPCORN WITH MILK CHOCOLATE FIRST, THEN WITH THE WHITE CHOCOLATE. IT MAKES A DIFFERENT LOOK AND TASTE.
I am making this for my daughters candy bar at her Birthday party. I have a few questions.
1) I have a microwave bowl with a vented lid that seems to work when popping corn. Does the popcorn taste different if you pop it on the stove?
2) How many servings does this make?
3) I want to make this ahead and store it in a Tupperware container for 2 weeks. Do you think that will be ok? Does this need to be stored in or out of refrigerator and how long can I store this?
I just cooked a recipe from another blog and it tasted gross!!! Ugghhh! I hope this one is good.
This looks absolutely delicious! Thanks for the idea…and the Sugar Rush!
Congrats on being included in this week’s Sweet Sixteen Collection! Gotta try this! Thanks for sharing!
Anyone having the same issue that I am? Every time I add food coloring to the melted white chocolate, it hardens the chocolate, making it impossible to “drizzle” over the popcorn. The white chocolate is perfectly smooth and ready to drizzle until the food coloring drops touch it, then bam, hardens right up. Suggestions, please, princess party is tomorrow!
I make this alot, just go to a party supllie store or even walmart and buy colored white chocolate. You can get any color that your would like, don’t need to add food coloring. And yes, you can make it ahead just put it in sealed bags. Hope this helped.
In case anyone else made the same mistake I did: You need to use colorings that are specially formulated for chocolate. Standard grocery store food coloring is water based and it will not work. Gel, paste, or powdered colors will work to beautifully color your confectionery coatings.
Now I know! Back to the store I go!
This looks and sounds delicious! I love popcorn and anything pretty <3
I have added mini marshmallows, M&Ms, peanuts, ect. to this and it is delicious!
We featured this recipe in our Food Trend Friday post. You can check it out here. Thanks

I found a recipe a while back for watermelon flavored popcorn, it uses jello for the flavoring and is a pretty shade of pink. Just though it might be worth looking into if you miss the flavor. I know my kiddos live it. I look forward to trying your chocolate popcorn, my kids were just asking about doing that a couple days ago, glad I found a recipe. Thanks!!
This sounds amazing, I may have to try it. I was thinking about the flavored idea and I had a lightbulb moment. What if you mixed a bit of koolaid powder into the melted white chocolate? Think, lemonade popcorn!! It would take some experimenting but I think it might work well. I’ve flavored things like frosting and sugar cookie dough in a similar way.
Do you think this would work with air popped popcorn?
I used air popped popcorn and it worked great for me.
Yes. The method you use to pop your popcorn doesn’t matter.
Enjoy!
I am so excited to try this tomorrow for my daughter’s 5th birthday party. It’s a princess spa theme and the popcorn will go perfectly in the favor bags. Thanks for sharing! I will post photos on my blog after the party and link back to this post as my inspiration for the popcorn.
This looks fab, looking forward to trying it!
This popcorn was a huge hit at our baby shower!
instead of red food coloring I used Wilton chocolate melts (pink)….melted the Wilton and ghirardelli white chocolate chips together in microwave 30 seconds at a time stirring each time until nice and creamy……do not add water or milk it will make the mixture clump! I used Himalayan (pink) salt I found at safeway.
A must at your next baby shower and great for movie night!
How far ahead did you make it and was it still good? Trying to find a good recipe for my sisters baby shower…I think this won!! Thanks.
Can I make this on a Thursday, stick it in a ziplock and serve it on a Saturday? Would I keep it in the fridge? Having a bday party on Saturday and wanted to give this out as a party favor.
I am delighted with the information that I have just got.
