Jarritos Soda

CK here! Since we moved to the Cambridge/ Somerville area a number of years ago, one of my favorite places to eat has been Anna’s Taqueria. On my initial visit, the first thing I noticed after their delicious selection of Mexican fare was the presence of rows of brightly colored bottles in the fridge cases. Upon closer inspection, these bottles were Jarritos.

Since my first sip that day, every trip to Anna’s for lunch has been accompanied with a delicious bottle of Jarritos. When Erin mentioned to me that we could get a sampler case to try, I just couldn’t pass up the opportunity to taste some of the flavors that I’ve always neglected.

Jarritos are made in Mexico, using 100% natural sugar (one of the few soft drinks in the US not made with High Fructose Corn Syrup, another being Erin Cooks’ favorite Gus Soda) and come in 11 different and very unique flavors, including Jamaica (Hibiscus), Guava, and their two most popular flavors, Mandarin and Tamarind. Spending a lot of time in Puerto Rico while growing up, I’ve always had an affinity for many “tropical” flavors, and Jarritos definitely tickles my taste buds. Some of my personal favorites include Guava and my usual lunch staple, Pineapple.

Much like the most interesting man in the world, I don’t always drink soda, but when I do, I prefer Jarritos. Jarritos can be found in many major and independent grocery stores, Mexican restaurants, taquerias, catering trucks and convenience stores.
