Willard Street Inn

Right before our lives were overtaken with packing, boxes, and moving CK and I took a short jaunt to one of our favorite locations (Burlington, Vermont) and stayed at our absolute favorite Bed & Breakfast, the Willard Street Inn. This heralded and well-loved status was earned by these locations during a winter excursion several years ago and our most recent trip absolutely lived up to our previous memories and expectations.

One of the many things that endeared The Willard Street Inn to us originally was the astonishingly delicious breakfast that is served each morning. In the instance above I happily consumed a very well appointed plate of Cinnamon Raisin French Toast, fresh fruit, and Canadian Ham. Generally speaking guests have a daily choice of various pancakes, waffles, or french toast or an egg dish which runs the gamut from omelets to poached eggs.

While the main breakfast course is always satisfying, where the Willard Street Inn truly shines is their morning basket of accompanying pastries. Since first trying the scones at the inn I’ve developed quite a reverence for their consistently buttery, flaky, and perfectly sweetened treats. I’ve never met a scone at this breakfast table that I didn’t like – from Cranberry Orange to Blueberry they’re all beyond scrumptious. Of course, their Coffee Cake is tender and tasty too. I’ve often found myself wishing that the owners sold a cookbook of their recipes. If they ever do compile such a guide I’ll be first in line to purchase one.

After a long day of sightseeing, skiing, boating, or shopping on Church Street it’s always a relief to come back to The Willard Street Inn to find a plate of soft and chewy freshly baked Chocolate Chip Cookies, dried fruit, and a Lake Champlain Chocolate or two waiting in your room. This afternoon tradition always gave us the extra burst of energy needed to keep our happy vacation moods intact before going out for a leisurely dinner or meeting up with our friends Amy and Rob for cocktails and conversation.

As each adventure came to a close I always looked forward to tumbling into our cozy bed at the end of the night; all the while looking forward to a repeat breakfast and cookie command performance the very next day. Needless to say, if you’re planning a trip to the Burlington area I wholeheartedly urge you to check out the gracious amenities of the Willard Street Inn. You wont be dissatisfied and you’ll never go hungry.
