Almost 10 years to the day after leaving Maine to live in Massachusetts I’ve come home. On June 5th CK and I closed on a condo in Portland. Yes, we’re home owners now!
We’ve been in our new place for approximately 3 weeks. So far, so good. I love living in a walkable neighborhood again. Being close to amazing coffee, delicious restaurants, and endless coastal adventures suits us. Even the cats are happier.
I also, once again, have a kitchen I enjoy cooking in (well…it’s a work in organizational progress but I do love my new bar stools) and after living in an apartment for 3 years that had the worst, most depressing lighting (or lack thereof) in the world I’m wondering if maybe I’ll start taking some pictures. We’ll see.
For now I’m content with enjoying amazing things that other people cook for me and discovering unique experiences like BP’s Shuck Shack. Yes, oysters from a food cart. Totally loved that find.
Other things that I’m super thrilled about… being able to run around Back Cove in the mornings, enjoying mimosas with an ocean view, randomly going to LL Bean at odd times, buying silly things with lobsters on them, and most of all being close to friends and family again. It’s all just one great big sigh of (not being stuck in insane Route 2 and Mass Ave traffic every single morning) relief.

Dear Erin,
You guys look so happy, place looks amazing! I’ve been meaning to tell you that you help inspired my food blog. 🙂
Love,
Hanh
Hi Hanh! So nice to hear from you. Your blog looks fantastic! And I LOVE those KitchenAid decals. I put an Apple sticker on mine a long time ago but yours are much more appropriate. Hope you’re well!
Oh how wonderful! Welcome (back) home! Portland is great. I was there a month ago and had oysters at that cart. Oh boy, they were about the best oysters I’ve ever had. Enjoy that gorgeous light-filled kitchen!
Thanks so much for the note, Rebecca! I agree, those Oysters were incredible. Plus they were Damariscotta Oysters — my fave, so double perfection — or something like that 😉
Hi Erin! Welcome back. I hope we’ll cross paths in Portland before too long!
Hi Karen,
That would be fantastic. I’d love that! Let’s make some plans to meet-up soon.
25 years ago I moved fr o m Chicago to Phoenix. I ultimately settled in an old historic neighborhood,, with walking /bridle paths, mountain views, and the ability to go out and enjoy like. Though the city has grown it has retained that small town neighborhood feel and I have never regretted giving up big city living.
Welcome back! I would love it if we could get together some time! Maybe some weekend when Anna is planning to be up, and we could make it a mini reunion?
Congratulations! You and CK look fabulous and those are definitely two happy kitties! I’d love to see you back in the kitchen (and food photos!)
Enjoy being home again.
So happy to see you’re happy and posting again.
I’ve missed you and your recipes.
Cheers to happiness!
Erin! You crossed my mind this morning for some reason! I clicked on an old post you had commented on and was happy to see a recent post! Congrats on the move back and home ownership. Love the kitchen.
So happy to know there is an old blogging buddy in ME!… the move for us was a huge one, and we’re still getting settled to the Maine lifestyle. But everyday I love it more. And Portland… gah! So wonderful. We’ve spent two weekends there so far and I am in love with that city. Especially Central Provisions for lunch (or dinner) and Pearl Bakery! We pretty much ate exclusively at those places. And we found a service that took our dog Champ off our hands and on his own park adventure for *hours* so we could have some ‘alone time’… and it cost $25! By NJ standards, that’s insanity. Loved it!!
You made it back! Have you checked out Central Provisions? Really enjoying reading through your posts!
